1. Plane rides went smoothly, which is definitely a plus! I even met up with one of the guys who will be teaching theatre for 4 weeks. We didn't think we were on the same flight, so it was a huge sigh of relief to have someone to talk to and try to decipher the Spanish signs of the Guayaquil Airport!
2. It's incredible how much you can remember from high school Spanish classes when you have no other choice! I still feel like I'm stranded from not being able to communicate, but it has already gotten light years better since 3pm when I arrived! I'm confident that I can pick it up quickly.
3. The family I'm staying with is incredible. They are so welcoming, and I am so grateful that they have a daughter that is learning English in high school right now!! The house is huge; I even have my own room! The food is amazing.
4. There are actually three other girls staying with this family as well. Two are sisters from Canada volunteering to do conservation work on the island, and the other is from Norway teaching English in the high school. They speak fluent English and not much Spanishas well, so we all figure it out together! I'm excited to have them to adventure with!
5. Sea lions are EVERYWERE. They make these weird, loud burping noises, too!
6. I played my flute for the family today. They have never seen one before, but the dad offered an hour of Spanish for an hour of "flauta" every day. I told him we had a deal!
7. I'm to very excited to start working with the kids! I still don't have any updates on exactly what I'll be doing (that comes tomorrow), but they're all so friendly already!
And with that, it's time for bed! Thank you for your thoughts and prayers!
